On September 3rd 2020, we learned with great regret of the
passing of Professor Fernando Jose Benesi from Brazil at
the age of 69.
Prof. Benesi was highly considered by buiatricians all
around the world and specially appreciated within the
veterinary community in Brazil where he was an example
and a mentor for many young veterinarians.
Prof. Benesi graduated from the School of Veterinary
Medicine and Animal Science of University of São Paulo
(1975), he completed a master degree in veterinary clinical
pathology at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1979)
and a PhD in Experimental and Comparative Pathology at
the University of Sao Paulo (1985). He did a post-doc in
Hannover Veterinary School – Germany (1988) in Bovine
Obstetrics and Gynecology. His expertise and research
focused on hematology and biochemistry, veterinary
neonatology, endotoxemia, experimental diarrhea in calf,
clinical immunology, tuberculosis, bovine leukosis virus
and small ruminants’ infectious diseases.
On behalf of the members of the World Association of
Buiatrics I would like to express my sympathy to Professor
Benesi’s family, friends and colleagues and recognize his
important contribution to buiatria.
Sincerely yours,
Professor Emile Bouchard,
WAB President
