
The World Association for Buiatrics feels deeply sad that our former Board Member
Prof. Dr. Kerstin E. Müller
passed away on April 18th 2026 after beeing severe ill.
Kerstin Elisabeth (1959–2026) was a distinguished and internationally recognized expert in bovine health management. She served as Professor of Ruminant Diseases and Head of the Clinic for Ruminants and Swine at the Freie Universität Berlin, where she led the clinic and contributed significantly to veterinary education and research.
After graduating and completing her doctoral studies at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, she continued her academic career at Utrecht University, where she also earned a PhD and specialist qualifications in cattle health. In 2003, she was appointed professor in Berlin, where she remained active until her retirement in 2024.
Her research focused on metabolic and respiratory diseases in cattle, lameness, and animal welfare in dairy production systems. She really played a key role in advancing herd health management and veterinary education.
Kerstin was deeply engaged in the international veterinary community, serving not only as a board member of the World Association for Buiatrics but also as Chair of the German Buiatric Association. She was also a Diplomate of the European College of Bovine Health Management (ECBHM) and contributed to several scientific and professional committees.
Beyond her scientific achievements, Kerstin will be remembered for her humanity, her generosity, and her dedication to colleagues and students.
